Still Afraid?

If you are an avid reader of this blog, you know that I love Are You Afraid of the Dark?. It's one of those classic childhood things that will always stay with me. Thanks to Amazon and iTunes, it can stay with you too.

Last October, these apparently went on sale. I feel foolish for having missed it, but things do happen. Two volumes have been released and while it's nice, they are not full seasons by any means. But $5.99 for seven episodes of Are You Afraid of the Dark? is nothing to scoff at.

Here is what the volumes contain:

  • The Tale of the Laughing in the Dark
  • The Tale of the Lonely Ghost
  • The Tale of the Midnight Madness
  • The Tale of the Midnight Ride
  • The Tale of the Quicksilver
  • The Tale of the Dream Girl
  • The Tale of the Dead Man's Float
  • The Tale of the Twisted Claw
  • The Tale of the Nightly Neighbors
  • The Tale of the Hatching
  • The Tale of the Thirteenth Floor
  • The Tale of Old Man Corcoran
  • The Tale of the Dollmaker
  • The Tale of the Night Shift
Volume 1 is extremely solid. With scary episodes like Laughing in the Dark (Featuring Zeebo!), Quicksilver and Midnight Ride; it's a must buy at that price. As for Volume 2...I'm not quite sold. I have watched these episodes and they aren't all that memorable to me...except I remember I didn't like Dollmaker or Hatching very much.

It's a little sad that these haven't hit DVD yet in the States. I have sent emails to Shout! Factory asking if they have rights to the show (Nickelodeon goes through them for their DVD releases), but received no word back. I plan to keep trying. I honestly wouldn't mind if they even just released 7 episodes at a time on their discs. As there are 91 episodes, there would be 13 discs! That's pretty nifty. I would ask, however, that they go in order of the series, as there is some continuity with The Midnight Society and certain reoccurring characters (Like Dr. Vink with a Va-Va-Va).

I will leave with with a question...
