And I Would Have Gotten Away With It Too...

I'm feeling inspired tonight. Is it because it is Friday the 13th? (Yes, I started writing this over a week ago) Perhaps. I have been lacking when it comes to the countdown. I have been plenty busy with school and work, but there will be a little time coming up before October where I will churn out a good number of articles. Here is the first official post of the countdown and it's about a subject near and dear to my heart.

Scooby-Doo.

Just as popular as Mystery Inc. themselves are their foes. The ones who, at the end once they are foiled, say "And I would have gotten away with it too, if it weren't for you meddling kids!" or something to that effect. Here is a list of my top 10 Scooby-Doo villains.

The Black Night - What A Night For A Knight (Scooby-Doo Where Are You!)

The first Scooby villain, ultimately setting the tone for the entire series. It's not an obvious first character, but one that I simply adore. He will always be one of my favorites.

Ghost Clown - Bedlam In The Big Top (Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!)

Probably so creepy because it was a ghost and a clown, but also, scary as it was the first villain to ever try to kill a member of Mystery Inc. I have long been curious if these people in masks know that scaring people is wrong, but trying to kill a member of the Scooby gang is just...despicable.

Spooky Space Kook - Spooky Space Kook (Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!)

Aliens have always been a pretty large component of Scooby-Doo. Not always real, but always entertaining. Spooky Space Kook was most notable for his laugh. It's spooky for sure.

The Creeper - Jeepers, It's The Creeper (Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!)

One of the most recognizable villain of the Scooby franchise, The Creeper. I like that in Mystery Incorporated, they referenced the case and even showed "flashbacks" to it. One of the many incredible things that show did.

Witch Doctor - A Tiki Scare Is No Fair (Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!)

Another highly recognizable character is the Witch Doctor. I do have to specify, as he was not the first witch doctor featured on the show, but he sure is the best.

Professor Pericles - Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated

Professor Pericles is worthy of inclusion for the sheer fact that he is the first villain, to my knowledge, that has an overarching storyline. Most villains last a full length movie or two episodes at the most, but Pericles was present almost from the very beginning. Not to mention he is a psychotic bird. That is always fun.

Ben Ravencroft - Scooby-Doo and the Witch's Ghost

A take on Stephen King, Ben Ravencroft was one of the rare villains who we see in standard non-monster form before we see him as something "scary". I think the thing I hate most about this character is that he actually used Mystery Inc to do his dirty work. I guess it's their own fault for being so gullible.

The Phantom Virus - Scooby-Doo and the Cyber Chase

The last of the "real" monsters from the original reboot series of the '90s, The Phantom Virus was new. The internet existed, but as a kid I didn't know much past pokemon.com. It was probably the most effective way to teach kids about computer viruses. Except none that I've had took me into a video game realm. They generally just want to steal your money.

Revolta - Scooby-Doo and the Ghoul School

Revolta is probably the earliest Scooby-Doo villain I can remember. She is also the most disgusting one I can think of. Her henchmen and spells were fascinating because it was such a departure from the original format of the TV shows. You never saw the villain doing villainous things in secret. It was fun to see.

Cornfield Clem - Scooby-Doo and the Spooky Scarecrow

Cornfield Clem is the newest villain on this list, as his special was only released this past Tuesday on the Run For Your 'Rife! set. I am a sucker for anything Halloween related and scarecrows. The special is only on this DVD set and will presumably air on Cartoon Network at some point before Halloween. I strongly urge you to seek out the set.

What are some of your favorite Scooby villains? Charlie the Funland Robot? The Freak of Crystal Cove? The Cotton Candy Glob? Don't hesitate to tell me!
